Not every search engine visitor will act the same way. One important difference that searchers have is their propensity to click on sponsored links. Nearly 2 out of 3 visitors in a recent study preferred the organic listing over the paid listing slot.
Logically, if you're focusing entirely on a paid listing system to promote your business you may want to start putting some time and effort into search engine optimisation in order to get a decent position on the organic listings.
That said, there are some time when paid listings can be very useful: Time limited special offers and event sign ups are two examples where the ease with which adverts can be added and removed works in your favour.
