Website Translation Tools

For many websites the accessibility of content to readers other than English is an important consideration. There are a number of online tools that provide free widgets that website owners can incorporate to make their content accessible.

For users of Google website browser Chrome, the translation option is automatically made available when a website is delivered that isn’t written in the viewer’s native language. Simply use the dropdown to confirm the source language and the web page will be re-displayed in the native language.

Google also offer a simple widget for any website content to be translated. Google Translate lets you translate simple lines of text or complete web pages by posting the text or URL.

Of course with all computer-based translation services the meaning and context may be lost in translation but it is better than nothing. However, the Lingro service provides an interesting translation tool that simply translates the words that the visitor wants. Simply visit the Lingro link and point at the words for a pop-up definition and translation to other languages.
