If brand identity means a lot to your company it should be strong in the website too, as part of the marketing mix.
You can provide an enhancement to brand identity by having your logo or image next to the website address as it displays in the website browser or in the tab, depending on the browser. Not only does this lead to more exposure for your image but it also lets people identify the image with your company, particularly when navigating tabs.
In addition, the icon is stored alongside the name of the page should a user bookmark the website or save it to their favourites.
The images and logos that we're referring to in the context are called favicons. They are simple, square, images of either 16, 32 or 64 pixel in size and they can be designed and displayed on your website relatively simply.
If you want to add a favicon to your website check out this tool (we love the definition of a favicon that it gives but I don't think it will win too many prizes for accuracy).
